STBM Award 2020 By Ministry Of Health, An Acknowledgment To Sanitation Partnership And Collaboration

23 November 2024

The National Government through the Ministry of Health awarded SNV and local government collaboration on SDG6, for the esteemed 2020 STBM awards (Sanitasi Total Berbasis Masyarakat / Community Led Total Sanitation). SNV’s Voice for Change Partnership program in 5 (five) districts in Sumatera are among the selected districts to receive the award.

Through the V4CP (Voice for Change Partnership) Program, SNV is working with nine local CSO (Civil Society Organisation) partners since 2016 to support District Governments in achieving local sanitation objectives and contributing to the national sanitation goals (Contributing to SDG 6). Through the advocacy support by V4CP’s CSOs, by 2018, the districts of Pringsewu and Lampung Selatan (Lampung Province) and Sijunjung (West Sumatera Province) had achieved ODF (Open Defecation Free) status, resulting in a better quality of life for up to 2 million citizens. V4CP’s CSO had also scaling up the successes and provide assistance to other districts and cities in the province of Lampung; through which, the city of Metro and Way Kanan District had also achieved ODF status.

Districts and Cities nominated for the awards were evaluated at the provincial level with the final decision made by the Ministry of Health. Of the various categories of the STBM 2020 Award, the ODF District/City Award was received by the Sijunjung District, City of Metro and Pringsewu District, while Lampung Selatan District was awarded as Best District/City of ODF Acceleration, and Pringsewu District also received another award as the Best District/City for Sanitation Demand Creation.

We appreciate the sanitation partnership between SNV V4CP, the local CSO and District Governments; while acknowledging and continuing to areas future challenges. Such as sustaining the achievement of ODF, move forward ensuring safely managed sanitation in the entire sanitation chain, and replicating the best practices of these locations to other areas at provincial or national level. Via a multi-stakeholder approach and in using systems change approach for scaling, Voice for Change Program partners is ensuring the sustainability of its results. SNV through its sanitation-related programs in the country will continue to partner with and provide support to the local government in facing these challenges, capitalizing on the strong and effective partnership and cooperation with local governments, communities and civil society partners.
